In Hawaiian mythology Kuhina represents the wellness that occurs when the God of the Sun, “Ku,” and the Goddess of the moon, “Hina” come together. Their embrace forms an alliance of energy that brings health and wellness. This unity of body and mind is experienced by each of us when the energies of our divine masculine and divine feminine join together within us. Above is the symbol of the Kuhina WELLNESS CENTER.
The Kuhina WELLNESS CENTER is nestled in a lush green park like setting, up-country on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Center is situated between two lava flows from the now dormant Hualalai volcano at 2,000 feet elevation in picturesque Pu'uanahulu. In ancient times this was the summer home for Hawaii's royal families, the “Ali'i.” This unique area is surrounded by ponds, waterfalls, footpaths and a variety of plants and trees. Looking out across the ocean waters you see Haleakala mountain on the island of Maui. Sunny blue skies in the morning and the cool afternoon breezes bring clouds keeping the daytime temperatures in the mid-70's year round. Cool evenings and clear night skies are optimal for stargazing and viewing the Milky Way.
Dr. Patricia Patrick and her late husband, Peter Patrick, founded Kuhina WELLNESS CENTER in 2006 out of their passionate commitment to personal growth and healing in all its forms. Until his death in 2008 Peter Patrick was CEO and Director. His support was instrumental in the development of the Center. His generous spirit will always be present.
Dr. Patrick has 40 years experience in the healing profession. Her eclectic approach has East meeting West as she works with the different energies of body/mind/soul. She combines Eastern practices of Martial Arts and Qigong with Western concepts of body movement, dream work, art and journaling. This synergistic approach leads an individual to a deeper understanding of their authentic self and creates the opportunity for healing and wellness.
Dr. Patrick's credentials are impressive. She is a Jungian psychiatrist, having studied for more than 2 years at the C. G. Jung Institute in Knusnacht, Switzerland, a 4th degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, 2nd degree black belt in Hapkido, an advance student of medical Qigong and a graduate of the Marian Woodman's BodySoul Rhythms® Leadership Training Program.
