A great way to begin the weekend is to participate in “1st Saturday.” We quiet our minds to receive healing energy and hear the body's internal voice. As we move we become more aware of the rhythms and tempos which shift our bodies toward healing. “1st Saturady” is an opportunityto stop, breathe and make time to connect with our bodies. In this way we become aware of the thoughts and feelings we deny ourselves during the week. We begin the morning by opening the altar and inviting the divine energies of the universe to guide us. Next comes walking meditation, drumming our heart beat, as we move around the room. This allows us to change our focus from our busy day-to-day schedules and obligations giving time for personal inner reflection. The session continues with an hour of Qigong exercise, gentle movements that encourage energy flow in the body. Chinese medical doctors understand the body interms of energy - “qi” - as differentiated from western medicine which focus on physiological systems. |
Qi moves through unseen channels of the body. Pain and illness occur when there are blockages in these channels. When these channels are open, the qi glows unimpeded and the person is mentally and physically healthy. Qigong movement improve the flow of qi and encourage our bodies and minds to be healthier. Following Qigong, we use free movement to bring our attention into our bodies and appreciate the unlimited possibilities within us. We dance the many emotions, joy and pleasure, sadness and grief, by consciously moving our bodies. Each week we focus on a different healing system, i.e., Marion Woodman's BodySoul Rhythms®, Gabrielle Roth's “5Rhythms®.” Nike, the ancient Greek warrior goddess, is one of the many divine powers we honor in our opening. Nick, “winged victory of Samothrace,” (pictured here), represents the potential for success or positive outcome that we seek in our quest for healing and wellness. In the myth Nike's three brothers – effort, motivation and desire – represent the masculine elements necessary for change. Nicke the fourth element, is the feminine energy that can make synchronistic change manifest in the blink of an eye. Success and victory is then possible! We believe that wellness equates with victory and success. We |
believe that the health and wellness of an individual person supports the “success and victory” of the larger community.
